Private Sector Employment Growth Resumes

The latest employment figures show that job growth in the UK in the private sector picked up again the final three months of 2010.

Whereas in the three months to the end of September there was no overall growth in the number of private sector jobs, in the final three months of the year there was an increase of 77,000. 

This brought the total increase in private sector jobs during 2010 to 428,000, offsetting a reduction of 132,000 jobs in the public sector.

At the end of 2010, the private sector employed 78.8 per cent and the public sector employed 21.2 per cent of the 29.52 million people in work.
