Number of Older People in Work Continues to Rise

The latest labour market statistics released by the Office for National Statistics show a further increase in the number of people aged 50-64 in work for the February – April 2015 period.  Their employment rate is now 69.4 per cent  (compared with 73.4 per cent for the 16-64 age group).

There was also a rise in the number of people aged 65+ in work.  Currently 10.4 per cent of over-65s are working.

Both unemployment and long-term unemployment (12 months and over) amongst those aged 50+ fell during the period.
