Employers and the Ageing Workforce: Recent Research and Current Issues

Hilary Metcalf and Pamela Meadows of the Institute of Economic and Social Policy Research will present the findings of the Second survey of employers’ policies, practices and preferences relating to age, 2010 commissioned by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and the Department for Work and Pensions.

John Arnold, Professor of Organistional Behaviour and Director of Research at the Business School, Loughborough University will discuss Motivating the mid-life worker: ensuring that people in later career can contribute to organisational objectives.

Robert Lindley, Professor of the Institute for Employment Research and former Pro-Vice-Chancellor, University of Warwick, will reflect on What have learnt from international research on ‘best practice age management’: are there lessons for the future? This will draw partly on the early stages of an ongoing EU-funded project ASPA (Activating Senior Potential in Ageing Europe).

Chris Ball, Chief Executive of TAEN, will introduce the Workforce Assessment Tool which TAEN has developed with the US-based AARP for use by UK employers.  The online tool enables employers to assess their current and future workforce needs.

The afternoon seminar will be held at the Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining, 1 Carlton House Terrace, London SW1.

The seminar is free to attend for TAEN members.  The delegate fee for non members is £30 (to cover administrative costs).
