How Can We Reconcile the Right to Work Later with the Right to Retire?
TAEN and the London School of Economics (LSE) have established a seminar group on older workers. The group meets quarterly and receives papers and presentations across a wide range of issues relevant to the labour market for people in mid and later life.
The next seminar will focus on the above question. The programme will include the following presentations:
“Contradictions in the desire to work past pensions age: Third age work, flexibility, and the later working agenda” - Ben Baumberg (London School of Economics).
Research for the review of the National Default Retirement Age: Ian Rutherford, Statistical Advisor at the Employment Market Analysis and Research Division of the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills will introduce the Fair Treatment at Work survey. His colleague Craig Barratt (Statistician) will talk about the age boost element in the above survey and present the findings.
There will be time for discussion and for participants to mention other research or offer interpretations that shed light on the discussion topic.
The seminar (14:00 - 17:00) will be held at the offices of TAEN member Russell, Jones & Walker Solicitors, 50-52 Chancery Lane, London WC1 1HL.
Membership of the seminar group is based on a strict quota of practitioners, researchers and policy originators, but if you would like to join the group and attend this seminar, please use the booking form. Please bear in mind that numbers are limited and LSE staff and students must also be accommodated.
This conference is sponsored by Reed in Partnership, a private company delivering New Deal welfare to work programmes.
