The Equality Act has come into force. How does this affect the Age Regulations introduced in 2006 which generally made age discrimination in employment unlawful?

The Equality Act, which brings together the different laws protecting people from discrimination, replaces previous legislation such as the Employment Equality (Age) Regulations 2006.  It covers the same groups of people that were protected under the previous equality legislation. It also extends protection to some groups who were not covered by the previous legislation and strengthens some aspects of equality law.

The Acas website provides useful information on the Equality Act: what has stayed the same, what has changed, the rights that have been extended and what has been strengthened.
